Sailing to Roatan

Undoubtedly, boats departing from Northern Florida may find it easier to navigate the outer Bahamas and Windward Passage to destinations in the Western Caribbean.  Don Brenner cut across the Gulf of Mexico taking departure from Mobile, AL and through the Yucatan Channel a popular route to take for sailors heading to the Bay Islands, Guatemala, or Belize. While this route may be shorter, it requires more focus with navigation due to contrary currents. Don reports he sailed 7 days non stop to reach Roatan and was kind to send me clip along the way.  “Back in August, Sally and I bought some waterfront property in Roatan, Honduras. The property is boat access only and quite beautiful. Filled with large volcanic rocks and wild orchids and tropical foliage; the waterfront is mangrove. We had a T dock built last month.” Siskiwit will be sailing the Caribbean and operating out of Jonesville Bight, Roatan, Honduras. This marks the farthest S Latitude and W Longitude in her 54 sailing years other following construction.
